New DT Member – Welcome Michelle

Filed under: General — goddessof at 8:49 am on Tuesday, February 9, 2010

I would like to sincerely thank everyone who applied for the Design Team position here at Mystical. The decision was incredibly difficult.

I am thrilled to announce that our new DT member is :

Michelle Fowler

Congratulations Michelle, myself and the current DT team are looking forward to working with you

Here is a little about Michelle

My name is Michelle but most people call me Shell.
I am a SAHM and I live in Brisbane’s East side with my beautiful family.
I have 2 gorgeous little boys and a wonderful and very understanding husband.
Scrapping is my obsession and its my excuse for a little bit of me time once the kiddies are tucked up in bed.
I have always been a crafter and I like to dabble in some other hobbies too, for instance photography, decoupage, mosaics, painting and jewellery making but Scrapbooking is by far my favourite.
I LOOOOVE to use lots of colour and layers on my pages and although I never really thought I had a style other people have described my LOs as ‘clean and bright’.
My favourite techniques include stamping, using paint and misters, distressing, doodling and white space.
My favourite manufacturers are Sass, Cosmo Cricket, October Afternoon, Crate Paper and Collage Press.
I am so proud to be a design team member for
Mystical Scrapbooks and excited to be able to share my work with you all and also enjoy the work of all the talented members in the forum.

Funky Flower Tutorial

Filed under: Techniques — goddessof at 9:41 am on Wednesday, January 13, 2010

Over the next few weeks we will adding tutorials/techniques from past challenges and cyber crops.

Enjoy our first one from Ellen Woodbridge on how to make Funky Paper flowers

To start your Flower you will need to pick out some patterned paper. I have used 4 6×6 sheets for mine. 12×12 paper or some scrap pieces will also work.
Image

Next we need cut some circles from the paper. Circle size are 4½”, 4”, 3”, 2 ½”
Image

To make the petals cut slits around in the edge of the circles, but not all the way into the middle.
Image

Now roll the edge of each petal with a skewer. You can roll the edges as little or as much as you like. Do this for all your circles.
Image

As my paper was not double sided I inked the rolled edges of all the circles using a sponge. You may wish to skip this step.
Image

Now grab some Kindyglitz or glue and glitter and add this to the straight and rolled edges of your petals. To give them some sparkle. Set aside to dry.
Image

You are now ready to assemble your flower. Use foam adhesive to assemble you flower it will also separate the layers.
Image

All you have left is to add a brad or button the centre of your smallest circle and you are done. Your funky flower is now ready to use on a Layout or
card.

Here are some examples of how Ellen has used these flowers on her pages

Please stay tuned for more tutorials that will be on there way over the next few weeks

January DT Kit Reveal

Filed under: Design Team Projects — goddessof at 8:10 am on Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Christine’s DT Kit Reveal

What a great kit – My Little Shoebox, In Bloom range of papers. These are double sided so very versatile to use.
I also had some Twiddleybitz chipboard which I used Crafty Notions Colour Sprays on and then tried to stick through the xyron (didn’t fit and wrecked one of my chipboard pieces :( but now it’s a lesson learnt)
A few other bits and pieces – ribbon, pearls, cardstock & alphas :D

More of Christine’s DT Kit creations can be found HERE

Ellen’s DT Kit reveal

I was sent this bright and fun range of papers and embellishments called Let’s Roll from Imaginisce

I especially love the quality of their rubons and the glaze on certain images on the double sided papers to say I had fun with this range was an understatement.

I am also quite a variety of American Crafts Thickers, Doddlebug Alphas, stickers, crimper and Herringbone and Diamond Plate Cuttlebug Folders
